Saint & Forster Funeral Directors in Darlington will help you celebrate wonderful lives… the inspiring things we all do and the little things that make us unique

As local Darlington funeral directors, our vision at Saint and Forster is to provide a space that feels safe and comfortable. We aim to provide a service that brings comfort and peace of mind during a very difficult time. Whether you choose cremation at Darlington Crematorium; burial; a ‘green’ or environmentally friendly funeral or direct cremation, we will guide you through the process. We will give you plenty of time to discuss all of the funeral arrangements and to make sure that the funeral fully reflects the life of the person who has died. We can advise you on burial or cremation, how to register the death, and on choosing floral tributes. If you are concerned about funeral costs we can discuss various ways of keeping these low. A funeral is about the people who are there and the words that are said; it is about love, not the amount of money that is spent. It is important to remember that there are no rules. Other than to register the death, there are no constraints and you can take as much time as you need to plan everything you need.

What to do when someone dies:

If someone dies at home you will need to contact your doctor. If the death takes place in a nursing home, the staff will take care of this for you. If the death is expected, the doctor will issue a certificate of cause and the person can be taken directly to the funeral director. You can then make an appointment to register the death. If you have chosen cremation, two doctors will then complete medical certificates that allow the cremation to take place. The doctors’ fees for this currently stand at £164.
If the death was unexpected, the person who has died may be referred to the Coroner who will investigate the cause of death. In this case the person who has died will be taken to the hospital. We will keep in close contact with you throughout this process so that you know exactly what is happening. You do not need to wait until the medical certificates are issued before you make the funeral plans.

Green Funerals:

Environmentally friendly funerals are becoming increasingly popular and there are many different reasons why people are choosing them. It may be out of concern for the environment and a wish to have a funeral that has as little impact as possible, or it may be a wish for burial in beautiful natural surroundings that can be visited by friends and family. Whether you are planning for the future, or making funeral arrangements for a person who has died, We, here at Saint and Forster can give you advice and information on all ‘shades’ of green funeral.
